2011 Energy Tax Credits are Reduced 1/3/2011

2009 and 2010 were great years for energy tax credits.  However, in 2011, Congress rolled back the tax credits available to individuals.  The credit is limited to 10%  with a credit ceiling of $500.  The ceiling limit includes all energy credits taken in past years, including 2009 and 2010 when the limits were three times higher.  There are also limits on particular items that make up the ceiling of $500, including no more than $150 can be claimed on furnaces and water heaters, $200 for windows, and $300 for biomass fuel stoves.  So if you have taken an energy credit in prior years, you may not qualify for a credit in 2011.
