• 19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; and
• 14 cents per mile driven in service to a charitable organization.

Beginning July 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (including vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

• 58.5 cents per mile for business miles driven;
• 27 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; and
• 14 cents per mile driven in service to a charitable organization.

For the 2007 tax year, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (including vans, pickups or panel trucks) is:

• 48.5 cents per mile for business miles driven;
• 20 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; and
• 14 cents per mile driven in service to a charitable organization.

The rates for business, medical and moving expenses determined by the Internal Revenue Service are based on a study prepared annually, by an independent contractor, that looks at the fixed and variable costs of operating a motor vehicle.  The rates for expenses associated with service to a charitable organization are determined by statute.
