With many IRS scammers in the news lately, unscrupulous sorts posing as IRS agents have put everyone on guard against fraudulent demands for payment or private information. However, please be aware that the IRS has announced that, starting in April, they will begin sending letters to a small group of taxpayers with outstanding tax deficiencies to inform them that the collection process on their accounts is being turned over to one of four private collection agencies.
The IRS warns us, however, to remain vigilant to scammers who may try to use this program as another vehicle for defrauding taxpayers.
More on the program can be found here.
